Artist Cottage

Little Artist Cottage

We are proud to introduce the Artist Cottage & Little Artist Cottage in Sutherland. The two cottages are typical of historic "Karoo-style" building and has been renovated without losing its authentic "Karoo" feeling, therefore don't expect perfect doors and windows. Guests will experience the tranquility of the Karoo with historic Karoo accommodation. The Artist Cottage is the main cottage that can accommodate up to 5 guests while the Little Artist Cottage can accommodate up to 2 guests.

Sutherland is situated in the Northern Cape, just a stone's throw from the Western Cape's border and +-320 kilometres from Cape Town. Sutherland stands 1450metres above sea level which explains the extremely clear skies, cold temperatures and the sporadic winter snow. The high altitude of Sutherland is a popular choice for athletes and cyclists to enhance their fitness levels and endurance.

Sutherland is an excellent base to explore the wild and rugged countryside of the Roggeveld plateau and the many mountain passes that link the town to the surrounding lowland areas. Probably the most well-known of the mountain passes is situated on the R354 south towards Matjiesfontein, that cuts through a mighty cleft in the Roggeveld Mountains five kilometres from Sutherland.

Sutherland is home to SALT, the Southern African Large Telescope, which is the second largest optical telescope in the world. SALT is a popular tourist attraction and definitely worth a visit. The town itself is historic, quaint and quiet. If you enjoy spring flowers, September is a good time to visit. You could then also explore the Tankwa-Karoo National Park, which has beautiful spring flowers and is just around the corner from Sutherland.

The Artist Cottage and Little Artist Cottage are ideal for that weekend away from the city, and spending some quality time with family and friends.

Both cottages can be booked together or separately.
